4 Tips to Improve Sound Quality in Your Drive-Thru System

February 13, 2017 ·

Is harsh winter weather degrading sound quality in your drive-thru system? Try these four tips from CE Repairs for clearer sound and better communications between customers and crewmembers.

  1. Make sure the order post is in a protected spot that minimizes noise. When possible, situate this critical component of your drive-thru system behind a building or facing away from traffic noise on busy streets. If you don’t have a suitable location, install a sound screen to help block wind and other noises.

  1. Install a speaker post with two separate sound chambers. The separate chambers enhance sound quality, making it easier for customers and crewmembers to hear and understand each other.

  1. Position the inbound microphone as close as possible to the customer's level in the car. A good rule of thumb is to locate it about 42” above the pavement. Too low or too high and the microphone will pick up all kinds of unwanted extraneous noises.

  1. Make sure the outbound speaker isn’t too close to the microphone. Placing it at least two feet away will minimize feedback and help prevent fuzzy, distorted communications.

These are small improvements, but they can make a big difference in your sound quality and your customer service. If these important external components of your drive-thru intercom system need replacement or repair, give us a call at 877-731-0334.
